Purpose of Education

I would like to start this article with Sanskrit verse

विद्या ददाति विनयं विनयाद्याति पात्रताम् ।
पात्रत्वाद्धनमाप्नोति धनाद्धर्मं ततः सुखम् ॥

vidyA dadAti vinayaM, vinayAdyAti pAtratAM ।
pAtratvAddhanamApnoti, dhanAddharmaM tataH sukhaM ।।

Meaning:

Knowledge makes one prudent, prudence begets worthiness ।
Worthiness creates wealth and enrichment, enrichment leads to right conduct, right conduct brings contentment ।।

purpose of education

“It seems to me that education has a two-fold function to perform in the life of man and in society: the one is utility and the other is culture. Education must enable a man to become more efficient, to achieve with increasing facility the ligitimate goals of his life.” -Martin Luther King Jr.

According to me the sole purpose education is to teach the art of living in this world. The Sanskrit verse, above mentioned, is apt enough to understand the exact purpose of  education. The cultural education, the most important form of education which leads to our belief system or character, can be only attained by teaching literature. As Mahatma Gandhi said that literature should must be taught to all undergrad student.

As always your comments will be appreciated and questions will be much more appreciated.
